Regional, not regionalized

1,000+ recipes from 13 culinary regions, each credited to the place it comes from. Dominican, Colombian and Panamanian sancocho each get their own recipe, and hundreds of dishes show their regional variants and what makes each one special. When a dish belongs to more than one place — arepas in Venezuela and Colombia, alfajores in Argentina and Uruguay, lechón in Cuba and Puerto Rico — we mark it as shared. And when a classic grew up far from home, like the Cuban sandwich of Tampa and Miami or San Francisco's Mission burrito, we tell both sides of its story. Every family's version has a place at the table.

Found, in your language

Search the way you talk and discover cuisines you'd never know how to look up. Type 'coconut rice' and Jamaican rice and peas, Malaysian nasi lemak and Swahili wali wa nazi appear side by side. Search an ingredient you know, like corn, and the results run from arepas and tamales to East African ugali, Romanian mămăligă and Hokkaido miso ramen. Nearly every dish with a foreign name gets a plain description in English or Spanish — bossam is 'Korean pork wraps' — and every dish's history tells you where it comes from. Or just say what you're after: 'desserts', 'pork', 'grilled chicken', 'street food Mexico', 'Christmas Puerto Rico'. Sofrito knows what each dish is built on, how it's cooked, what kind of dish it is and where it's from, and the same search works in Discover, Regions, Seasonal and Saved, your own imported recipes included. Type a diet instead — 'keto', 'gluten free', 'healthy' — and it offers to turn that filter on.

One filter, every dietary need

Set what you can't eat once, and Discover, search, Regions and the Seasonal list show only recipes that fit. Allergens: the FDA's Big 9, sesame included. Conditions: celiac disease, diabetes, hypertension, GERD, IBS, renal insufficiency, hypercholesterolemia. Religious patterns: halal, kosher. Eating patterns: vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, keto. Food rules: low sodium, low sugar, low fat, no pork, no alcohol and more. Every option says in plain words what it hides. Recipes stay the originals: if you choose, Sofrito also shows the ones that fit with one small replacement and marks the ingredient to change. Every filter lists its sources — NIH, FDA, the American Heart Association and more — in Sources & Evidence.

Cook with the weather, wherever you live

Every dish is rated by how it's served — cold, warm, or hot — and the Seasonal tab orders them by today's weather where you are; when two dishes fit equally well, the one from your part of the world comes first. A hot day? Gazpacho, ceviche and aguachiles lead. Cold or rainy? Soups and stews rise to the top — in the cooler months, pozole and sancocho among them. With location on, Sofrito also detects your hemisphere, so a cook in Buenos Aires and one in Boston each get the right list for the same day. Between holidays, the tab never goes blank — it always shows what fits the season.

Holidays that cross borders

In the days around a holiday, the Seasonal tab shows a card with its date, the countries celebrating it and the dishes traditionally cooked for it, each one chosen by hand. Christmas is one card for seven countries, and its list runs from Mexican bacalao and ponche to Argentine vitel toné and pan dulce, Dominican roast pork, Colombian buñuelos and natilla, Peruvian turkey with panetón, Spanish roast lamb and turrón and a U.S. glazed ham — each under its flag. Three Kings Day, Holy Week, Thanksgiving, Día de Muertos and the independence days have theirs. When Sofrito has no dishes for a date, the card says so instead of guessing.

Knows when a recipe needs a head start

Biltong dries for days; pernil marinates overnight; injera batter ferments for days. Sofrito reads every recipe and flags the wait UP FRONT — "Plan ahead · 3–5 days" — so you find out before you commit, not at step four. And the timers are honest: a 24-hour marinade doesn't start counting the moment you open the step. It waits for you to tap Start when you've actually set it going, then reminds you when it's ready — and if that would land in the middle of the night, it warns you first and, when the recipe allows, offers a better time. Slow recipes, finally handled like slow recipes.

Hands-free cooking, in two languages

Floury or oily fingers? Sofrito reads each step aloud, runs your timers in the Dynamic Island, and listens in English or Spanish — whichever language the app is set to. Say "next," "repeat" or "pause," or ask about an ingredient — "what is culantro?" — and Sofrito explains it out loud or tells you how much the recipe needs. Tap a running timer on the lock screen to jump back to the exact step it belongs to. Any timer can be cancelled from its ✕, and if you start a second recipe while another still has timers going, Sofrito asks first.

Don't know an ingredient? Ran out of one? Tap it.

Tap any ingredient for 2–3 swaps you can find at a regular grocery store — how much to use, how it changes the dish, and whether it's traditional in that cuisine. The swaps keep to the diet filters you have on. About 90 less familiar ingredients (gochujang, ají amarillo, sumac, berbere, niter kibbeh, recao, yautía, harissa…) also come with curated notes on where they're used and how they taste — look for the green ⓘ.

Built for chronic conditions

Tell Sofrito which medications you take, and with one tap on any recipe it checks for known food-drug interactions before you cook (warfarin + leafy greens, MAOIs + aged cheese, some statins + grapefruit). Kidney- and sodium-aware filters too.

Bring any recipe in

Snap a handwritten card or a cookbook page, or paste a food-blog link. Check the scanned text, and Sofrito turns it into a structured recipe — ingredients separated, steps numbered, ready to cook — and works out its nutrition (calories, protein, carbs, fat and more) from USDA FoodData Central data. Web recipes keep a link back to the original page, and a page in another language comes in translated, ingredients and steps included, with the original kept. Imported recipes are found by the same search as the catalog ('grilled', 'legumes', 'comfort food'), and once you've cooked one you can add your own photo of the dish. Your imported recipes and photos are saved only on your phone; sharing a family recipe with the Sofrito community is your choice, and it stays off unless you turn it on.

Snap what you have, get a recipe

Snap a photo of what you have — even still in its bags and boxes — and Pantry Chef writes a recipe you can cook tonight, in the cuisine you choose: Caribbean, Latin American, Mediterranean, East Asian or any of 13 regions around the world. It even generates a picture of the finished dish. Party or holiday leftovers? Turn on “These are leftovers” and Pantry Chef turns them into a brand-new dish, reheated safely, instead of the trash.

Your kitchen's smartest friend

Ask what to swap for buttermilk, scale a recipe to feed eight, or turn three ingredients into dinner. Chef Sofrito knows the recipe you're cooking, Pantry Chef writes a new one from what you have, and both take your dietary rules into account — answering like a cook who's tried it all.

One list for everything you're cooking

Add the recipes you want to cook and Sofrito folds duplicate ingredients together, scales them to the servings you choose, and turns pinches and tablespoons into what you actually buy — a bunch of cilantro, a container of salt. Add the cookware you'll need, then share the whole list in one tap.

Cook in English or in Spanish

Switch the language in Settings and the recipes, the steps, the timers and the voice that reads them all switch with it. Here's the same recipe in both.

Tap the screens to compare them up close.
