Frequently asked questions
Is my data safe? +
Yes. Sofrito doesn't require an account, doesn't use ad networks or third-party analytics, and keeps most of your activity on-device. Read the privacy policy for specifics on what leaves your phone and why.
How do I import a recipe from a photo? +
Open the import screen, tap Camera or Photos, and point at a printed recipe or screenshot. Sofrito reads the text on your phone and lets you check it; then only that text goes to our AI to be structured into a real recipe. Your photo never leaves your device.
Can I import handwritten family recipes? +
Yes. When a scan looks handwritten, Sofrito asks you to double-check the names and amounts before it builds the recipe. Your recipe stays private on your device unless you choose to share it with the community, and you can export it as a PDF to AirDrop, email, or Files so you don't lose it when you switch phones.
Why does the app ask for camera access? +
For the Pantry Chef (photograph what's on your counter and get a recipe idea), for recipe import (photograph a cookbook page or recipe card), and to add your own photo of a dish you cooked, which stays on your phone. Camera access is only used when you explicitly tap those buttons.
Why does the app ask for microphone access? +
For hands-free cooking mode. When you're cooking with floury hands, the voice narrator reads steps aloud and listens for 'next', 'repeat', 'pause'. Speech recognition runs entirely on-device — nothing is transmitted.
Why does the app ask for location? +
For the Seasonal tab: to know whether you're in the northern or southern hemisphere, so the right seasonal recipes surface, and to order them by today's weather. Your phone asks Apple for your country and the forecast; Sofrito's servers never receive your location.
How does dietary filtering work? +
Set your profile once (celiac, diabetes, allergies, hypertension, kosher, halal, vegan, etc.) and Discover, search, Regions and the Seasonal list show only recipes that fit it. Each catalog recipe is read whole by an AI model and checked against written rules, and a tag shows only when both agree; for severe allergies, always cross-check the ingredient list.
Is Sofrito available in Spanish? +
Yes. Open Settings → Language and pick Spanish. The interface, recipe text, and AI responses all switch to Spanish.
How does 'Order Online' work? +
Online grocery ordering is on the way — we're setting it up with grocery partners now. Today, your shopping list already converts recipe amounts into what you actually buy (a bunch of cilantro, a container of salt), and you can share it by text, WhatsApp or email in one tap.
I found a bug. How do I report it? +
Use the form below — tell us what you were doing, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. Screenshots help. We read every message.
How do I delete my data? +
Most data is local — deleting the app removes it. If you've submitted a community recipe or sent a support message and want it removed, email us via the form below with the approximate date and a few words from the content so we can find and delete it.
